The evidence is clear: few Christian students know how to “rightly handle the word of truth” and to apply it to their lives. As a result, rather than being transformed by Scripture, many are taken in by faulty ideas of the world (Romans 12:1-2).

To help in one small way, I have created a 10-part series of short videos in which I address the top 10 misunderstood verses in the Bible.

Each video is less than 3 minutes and includes 4-5 discussion questions for group conversation, as well as some suggestions for further study on the topic (longer videos, podcasts, articles, etc.).

Here’s some of the verses and topics covered in the series:

• Can Christians do “all things” they put their minds to? (Philippians 4:13)
• Does God promise to be present only where “two or three gather in my name”? (Matthew 18:20)
• Is “homosexuality” a bad translation that harms gay people? (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
• Does God promise “a hope and a future” for Christians today? (Jeremiah 29:11)

As you and your students will see, there are some very common misunderstandings that Christians frequently adopt in interpreting the Bible. In each short video, I briefly explain the cultural and biblical context of the passage in order to properly understand what the passage means.

As you can guess, the big idea of this series is to teach students how to handle the word of God accurately. By pointing out faulty ways of interpreting the Bible, we can help them develop healthy methods of exegesis.

These lessons are meant to be as simple to use as possible and may take 20-30 minutes. They’re ideal for youth pastors, Bible teachers, and parents. Just play the video and follow up by asking students the discussion questions. And be ready to open up your Bibles to discuss each passage in its context. That’s it.
